One of the most common topics in the gym these days has to do with pre-workout supplements.
What is a Pre-Workout Supplement?
Its pretty easy to figure out, the name implies enough.
Pre- workout has grown in popularity immensely over the years built to give you an edge during your training with the most popular aiding at improving your energy and focus through stimulants.
There are companies that also offer non-stimulant options for those of you who would like to avoid the "stimmed up" feeling.
For the stimulant base you will find add ins such as creatine, beta-alanine and citrulline malate to aid in performance and nitric oxide boosters of agamatine sulfate and glycocarn for vasodilation.
Which one should you select?
Well the most important aspect of selecting a pre workout is based on the ingredients. The main reason you are taking one shouldn't be just because you heard your buddy talking about it but rather how it will be effective for "YOU" and "YOUR" workout.
The most common ingredients found in pre workout today are as follows:
Caffine- Energy
Methylhexanamine- Energy
Creatine- Strength
Beta-Alanine- Aids in the prevention of fatigue, also can give you the tingles.
Taurine- Reduces fatigue, cell volumizer by pulling water into the muscles.
Citrulline Malate- Aerobic performance
Glycocarn- Increases blood flow to skeletal muscles, creates oxygen in the blood.
Agmatine- Aids in the release of GH and also boosts Nitric Oxide.
Arginine- Enhances NO and GH
Acetyl L-Carnitine- Supports cellular energy production along with transport of fat.
Methyl Synephine- Enhance fat break down
Glutamine- Aids in recovery
Ok, so this all makes sense but I am still unsure which is correct for me?
This question comes simply down to you, what do you want to feel like?
Are you the type of person that needs to be woken up because you just sat at your desk all day?
Or do you typically have energy before you tackle your training?
My suggestion is based on many different trials of brands.
Some are very high with the stim feeling and you really need to know if your body can handle that feeling. I have known people that have had this kill their workout, having that sick and dizzy feeling is not productive. While the low or no stim options may not feel like you took anything.
I personally try and stick to the middle of the road, maybe a tingle here and there but one that wakes me up and gives me that focus to destroy the weights while also giving me that pump.
IMPORTANT: TOLERANCE...Once you decide, you now have to realize that your body will develop a tolerance and the effect you had before will not exist anymore. Meaning you are wasting your money on a flavored drink.
What I do is cycle off every 3-4 weeks and go without any type of stimulate based pre-workout. I simply rely on my diet to give me the energy needed along with a few other tricks that work for me.
I always tell people if you are dieting correctly you shouldn't see that much of an energy drop off once you get the blood flowing.
As of today my pre-workout of choice is MEGAWATT HD by 1st Phorm simply because it hits all the key things for me, it doesn't give off a crazy tingle, it wakes me up and focuses me to complete my mission, endurance is at a very high level, while add ins such as creatine and glutamine are supporting my muscle volumizing production, strength and repair. (You can find more info on this with the link on my website, with an added bonus!!!)
If you have any further questions on this topic please feel free to reach out to me, I have tried many over the years and will give you my honest opinion on my experience.
